Emmanuella Uwudia, a Level 300 BSc Computer Science has launched an innovative digital platform dubbed ‘ACity CV Book’ ( https://career-services-project-front-end.vercel.app) to streamline the hiring process for students and employers alike. The app is designed to bridge the gap between students and top recruiters.
The full-stack web-based portal allows recruiters to search, filter, and download student CVs based on skills, academic programmes, and graduation year. This innovation is timely as many companies are shifting away from traditional paper-based CV collection at career fairs, favoring a more digital and efficient approach.
The invention was developed with the support of fellow students – Bentil Saah, Dabone Abdoul Latif and Delasi Richards.
Reflecting on the journey, Emmanuella describes the projects as “incredibly transformative, a hands-on opportunity to sharpen technical skills in full-stack development while learning to collaborate effectively, adapt under pressure, and deliver on real-world expectations.
Solving a Long-Standing Challenge
The initiative was born out of a pressing need to find a cost-effective way of modernizing and enhancing the recruitment process. Previously, the Career Services Office had to manually match students with employers, a time-consuming and inefficient system. Additionally, the lack of a structured platform meant that students often submitted multiple CV versions, leading to duplication and inconsistencies in the application process.
With ACity CV Book, recruiters can now easily identify top talent without having to sift through hundreds of unstructured resumes. This ensures better visibility for students while making it easier for companies to find the right candidates.
A Tech-Powered Solution
Built using React.js, Node.js, Express.js, and MongoDB, the platform is not just a static database but a dynamic, searchable recruitment tool. Despite the challenges faced, including tight deadlines and data inconsistencies, the team successfully delivered a user-friendly and functional portal just in time for the university’s career fair.
Future Upgrades and Expansion
The development team has ambitious plans for the platform’s future, including:
- Job Listings – Companies will soon be able to post openings directly
- Application Tracking – Students will monitor their application progress
- Automated CV Vetting – Ensuring only well-formatted, pre-approved CVs make it to recruiters
- Role-Based Access – Customizing the experience for students, recruiters, and Career Services staff
This game-changing platform is expected to become a cornerstone of Academic City’s Career Services, offering students a seamless transition from education to employment.
Looking ahead, Emmanuella expressed her commitment to the App’s evolution saying, “Even after graduation, we would love to keep supporting the project whether by monitoring future developers, refining the build or scaling it further. There is real potential for this to grow into a university-wide career platform and maybe even beyond Academic City.”
