Academic City adjudged tech-driven education institution of the year

Academic City University has been recognised as the Tech-driven Education Institution of the Year 2025 at the Technovation Awards. The award confirms the university’s disruptive approach to higher education, through technology, innovation and strong industry alignment.

Additionally, Prof. Fred McBagonluri, President of Academic City was honoured as the Most Outstanding Leader in Tech-driven Education. He has consistently promoted an education system that prepares students for real work environments by closely linking learning to industry practice.

Academic City University was established seven years ago and has since taken a different path from the traditional university system. The institution combines technology, entrepreneurship and leadership with strong academic training. It was also the first university in Sub-Saharan Africa to introduce a Bachelor of Science degree in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.

Speaking about the award, Ing. Dr. Lucy Agyepong, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Academic City, expressed excitement over the recognition, noting that “the award shows that our focus on practical, technology-based education is making a real difference.”

She commended the university’s leadership, saying that “Prof. McBagonluri has remained committed to building an education system that reflects industry needs and prepares students for the future.”

According to her, Academic City is determined to keep developing programmes that give our students the skills and confidence to solve real-life problems.

The Technovation Awards celebrate organisations and individuals who are leveraging technology and innovation to accelerate sustainable outcomes that contribute significantly to national development.
